The nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given four 2009 Subaru vehicles its coveted “Top Safety Pick” award. This award carries over from 2008 for Legacy with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Impreza with VDC, and Tribeca.
The all-new 2009 Forester has earned the award based on its “GOOD” ratings in the frontal, side-impact, and rear-impact crash tests for both the driver and passenger seating positions. Current IIHS crash tests require side head protection and electronic stability control.
The new Forester also has earned 5-Star ratings in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash tests. It received five stars in both the frontal and side-impact crash tests for all seating positions.
