As I run down the boardwalk surrounded by palm trees, I can’t quite see the ocean yet, but I smell it. Anticipation and excitement flood through my body as I feel what the weather forecast predicted: a blustery wind running at 25 knots [28.8 mph] – not to mention clear blue skies. Shouldering a backpack full of gear, I grip tightly to my kiteboard and harness.
As the ocean comes into view, I can see small whitecaps on the water – the sign of good wind – and my steps quicken to match my adrenaline-fueled heartbeat. It’s a physiological response, but also a highly emotional one. Hot sand. Warm wind. Natural elements as powerful as the ocean. All the conditions add up to the perfect day for kiteboarding.
