It’s the same for Kingsway Learning Center, with a little help from their friends at Subaru of America, Inc. Holiday Expressions Each year, Subaru invites the students at Kingsway Learning Center, located in Haddonfield and Moorestown, New Jersey, to participate in an art contest to design a piece of original artwork to be featured on the Subaru annual holiday card. Subaru provides grants to the nonprofit special education school, which is devoted to the academic and therapeutic needs of children with developmental and learning disabilities. Art from the Heart The almost 20-year tradition kicks off shortly after the start of the academic year. Stefanie Mis, the school’s art contest coordinator, explains, “Subaru provides a theme, such as friendship, loving the earth, kindness, or goodwill, and the students’ imaginations are bound only by a set of soft design rules that includes just about any art material.” From construction paper fashioned into a snowman downhill skiing to a pastel watercolor depicting trees through the seasons, each piece is as unique as the student who created it, giving Subaru employees the difficult job of voting for the winning scene. The prize? A starring role, with the artist also featured on the back of the card. 2015 holiday card design by class of 7- to 10-year-olds from Kingsway A Long Friendship While holiday wishes come and go, the Subaru grant keeps on giving all through the year. According to Mis, the charitable gifts from Subaru to Kingsway Learning Center exemplify the Subaru mission to support the communities in which its employees live and work. “Our school is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016,” she notes, “and we are truly grateful that Subaru has been so incredibly supportive for the past 20 years.” This year celebrates the 17th season in which Kingsway students have designed the cover of the Subaru of America corporate card.
