After much searching at several shelters in our area, we had not yet found the perfect rescue dog for our family. We knew that the future family member we would rescue would have to meet all of our expectations to be the perfect fit. One day late in October I stopped at Animal Friends, and that is when I first spotted her. She was in a separate room with a window, and one of the workers was caring for her. Her name was Wonder Woman, and she was a spayed Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. She was 2 years and 2 months old, and weighed 42 pounds. I smiled at her adorable long ears and her sweet eyes looking back at me. The worker pointed up at me to show her I was there. That night, I told my husband about her, and he expressed interest. He said we would go look at her over the weekend if she was still there. Unexpectedly, the following evening, I received a FaceTime call from my husband. At first I heard a lot of dogs barking, and then I saw him looking into her cage. He said we should adopt her. She was perfect! We learned that one of her eight puppies (all named for superheroes) was in the finals to be in the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet on Super Bowl Sunday. It was still a secret at the time, since the finalists had yet to be determined. After a few months we renamed our dog Violet, and she has adjusted very well to our family. And her puppy did make it into the Puppy Bowl! Violet is pictured in our Subaru Outback on the way to her new home. We currently have a Legacy, Outback and Impreza. She has many more Subaru adventures to look forward to.
